“In the midst of poverty, violence, epidemic, and war, Stella found love and happiness. Chris was everything she ever wanted in a man, and he loved her dearly.

But life sometimes plays morbid games…What was supposed to be a fairy-tale ending, now was a nightmare.

The war took her everything, especially a reason to live. Coping with grief and anger, barely staying alive, life once again plays a morbid game.

To save her brother, she is forced to accept help from an enemy––arrogant and overconfident James from Country 90.

But life has one more game to play with Stella. This time it may not be so cruel…”

What the heckity heck?!

cover_barriers_newI just got an email from Amazon KDP kindly informing me of the following:

“We’re writing to let you know we will be conducting an additional review
to ensure your submitted content does not violate our guidelines. It
may take up to 7 business days to review…”

What the heck? All I did was change the cover of a previously published book! I don’t like the smell of it…  It usually took them several hours to publish such small changes, although they say 12-48 hours, but now I’m really worried.

7 freakin’ days?? Oh, come on…

How long will we have to wait?

Barriers

Not a sci-fi anymore? You bet your hiny that it’s not! After Google’s Project Glass I wondered how long we would have to wait for the entire description from “Barriers of the New World” to appear on shelves in stores near you. Not long, it seems…

…The person wearing those glasses could open up the top frame by touch––hence the term “movable”––and access the screen beneath it. That screen enabled the viewer to manipulate objects of interest...

One step closer to…”21 Erased” kind of world!

21ErasedWhen I was writing “21 Erased“, I didn’t expect to see reality catching up at all, let alone so soon. It was envisioned as a dire dystopian world, a small segment from a person’s life, a nightmare if you will—but somehow things keep evolving toward that reality and it gives me the creeps. First there was this issue I wrote about :

Cities across America are equipping their public transport systems with audio recording devices, potentially storing every word spoken by passengers onboard. Rights activists say the surveillance plan by far exceeds what is necessary for security.

The multimillion dollar upgra...

At last, this dystopian love of mine (the book, of course, what else?) has a video book trailer! So, without further due, Barbara Rayne presents (insert dramatic music) “Barriers of the New World”:

“Barriers” – sneak peek quotes

Barriers

Here are the first few quotes from “Barriers” to let you in on the atmosphere of the book. Don’t get fooled by the cover — it’s dystopian as hell :)

“In 2036, all countries have been given their new status and name, but migrations were still taking place in 2038. Just today, a train arrived with the new poor, seeking a job and a roof over their heads, but local residents greeted them with stones, metal bars, and curses –for there was no work for anyone.”

– Chapter #1, “Barriers” (2012) –

“I lived in a country that was proclaimed as a country of lazy, stupid, and arrogant people that were incapable of further progress, and who, in their complacency, didn’t see how far behind the others they were.”

– Chapter #1, “Barriers” (2012) –

“My country was named the Country 189...

What’s so human about humans?

Evolve coverWe always brag about being human, how wonderful humanity is, and how special species we are. Well, what is that “human” part that makes us so different? I think extraordinary events always bring out the essence, so the essence of being human can be best described in this example.

Imagine there’s a race coming to Earth far more advanced than we are. At that moment, isn’t every human being on Earth praying they are nothing like us? I guess now we know what’s so human about humans.
